Window of Opportunity
As a result of having to move the loca- tion of my main subject for this article, Kaitlin Chapple (thanks to Gary Gold- berg, GM Vistek Toronto, for referring Kaitlin), I booked a studio over at the Artscape studios in Toronto and had a full production shoot there this past December. Hair and makeup were pro- vided by Alicia Milovanovic, wardrobe for the rock ’n’ roll photos was by Zel Tyrant (referred by DQC Photography Toronto), and my assistant was Emily Van Kessel.
The location of the studio, in the Trinity-Bellwoods neighborhood of Toronto, is the northeast corner of the building, and on the main floor. I decided I wanted to set up a 4x4' Lastolite panel on the outside on a boom with a Profoto WideZoom Reflector attached to a Profoto B1 unit on a light stand. Aiming the light through the window, diffused by the Lastolite panel, created a softer light that wrapped beautifully around the subject. As the room is white, I closed the shades on the other windows, so that the ambient light wasn’t an issue.
