Developing
the wizard of milton keynes BY MARTIN EVENING
the Shot
Pictured here is Nick Woodley, High Priest of the Chiltern Hills for the Order of the Oath, or otherwise known as “The Wizard of Milton Keynes.” To anyone who knows Milton Keynes, this might seem a rather incongruous title, because most people know of it as a new town development that was constructed in the ’70s and home to lots of high-tech businesses. You could say it’s like the equivalent of being “The Wizard of Silicon Valley.” In fact, Milton Keynes is an area that was first settled in the Bronze Age and, as Nick explained to me, the layout of the current modern town is in lots of ways sympathetic to its ancient origins. It also includes Bletchley Park, which was home to the World War II code breakers who built the Enigma machine.
